SVARC Members,

Friday, January 18, 2013 is the Commonwealth's Lee-Jackson Day and the SVARC has once again obtained the Special Event Callsign W4V.

The W4V Special Event Callsign is valid for operation from 1600 UTC, Thursday, January 17th through 1600 UTC Sunday January 20th (3 days or 72 hours).

Members are permitted to use this callsign from their home QTH on those frequencies in which they have authorized privilege.  Additionally, the SVARC clubhouse will be open at selected times during this  3 day period and members are encouraged to operate the W4RKC station using W4V.  All HF, VHF, and UHF frequencies as well as all modes are permitted, per FCC guidelines.  That means you can operate 20M CW (if you're authorized to do so per license class) or 40M LSB.  Data modes such as RTTY, PSK, JT-65, etc are also encouraged.

Members signing W4V must keep a log that will be turned into the Club Secretary (K3VAT) and must identify their own personal callsign once per hour, minimum. If you are aware of another SVARC operating a specific mode on a specific band, e.g. 80M SSB, then it is advised that you select another mode or band.

QSL information is via W4RKC.  At a future time the logs from all participating stations will be gathered and made available for view on the SVARC website.  All members are encouraged to make as many contacts as possible.

Finally, it is suggested that you use the following when describing the W4V Special Event: Lee-Jackson Day is a Virginia Commonwealth recognized holiday in recognition for the birthdays of two great American Civil War generals: Robert E. Lee and "Stonewall" Jackson.

Any questions, please contact Rich Kennedy, K3VAT via email:  k3vat (at symbol) arrl.net
